Nakayama Kiita Suminagashi

Suminagashi Kiita 2 Wet

This is a real sweetheart of a stone; it’s a bit softer so it’s easier to work with, and the pattern is absolutely gorgeous. Plus – it’s a Kiita, so it has that old-school ‘feel’ in the feedback and it’s extremely capable of putting a very fine edge on a straight razor. The hardness here is just a bit soft, but it’s not what I’d call a soft stone. Water-only laps are easy to manage.

It’s a nice size Koppa, easy for hand-held work or bench-top use also. While it’s not a perfectly-cut stone, it’s very stable with just a bit of wobble on my bench.

All 4 sides and the bottom have been sealed with 3 coats of lacquer. The top has been lapped and the edges were chamfered.

Approximate Dimensions: 5.5 x 3.25 x 0.75” / 140 x 83 x 19 mm

Weight: 21 oz / 593 g

The last photo helow shows the stone after the final 3 coats of Cashew Lacquer have cured.
