Higonokami - 肥後守

Higo Pile 1

Higonokami are traditional folding knives from Japan. The carbon steel blade takes a great edge and it’s easy to sharpen. The scales are brass. There is no lock, the lever near the pivot opens the blade, and thumb-pressure on the lever keeps the blade open when in use.

The open Higo in the photo below is mine, and I’ve had it for quite some time. I find it to be a perfect general-purpose knife to keep on the bench; it’s not a highly refined high-tech EDC blade.

Higos are simple hand-made workers knives, with a function-first design, build, fit and finish.
