Paislays

I call these bowls ‘space ships’ – they very cool, and also functional. I believe this soap dates to the 1950s or possibly a bit earlier. The Maroon and Cream colored bowl seems to be made of an earlier plastic, perhaps Bakelite/Catalin but I am not sure.  The top portion shows a "P" in the center, circled by Carrell Ltd. Distributor, Chicago Illinois. The lettering on the second level states - Paislays Shaving Soap Bowl. Overall, it measures 4.0” in diameter, and the height is is 2.5”. The lid screws on with a 1/8th turn, a very short throw that is, admittedly, a little tedious to pull off with wet hands.

Paislay’s soap doesnt have an ingredients list, but I am 100% certain that it is a tallow based offering. It is qute the performaer, and - IMO - it is comparable to Yardley. For a long time, there was chatter in the forums about whether or not they were the same soap. I do not think they are, but this stuff sure is a contender for that top-shelf spot occupied by Yardley. This puck is a little dry, but I think it will hydrate on its own, so there’s no need to soak it.
