Naniwa Gouken Hayabusa - 4k

Product Number QA-0354

Gou - 剛 = strong

Ken - 研 = polish

Habayusa - 隼 = Peregrine Falcon

I’ve done several honing tests with several razors of various makers, origins, and grinds; each had their bevel set on a Chosera 1k first. The Hayabusa can be used as a splash & go stone, no soaking is needed.

Compared to the Chosera 3k, the Habayusa is a slower cutter, but it’s a faster and better polisher. Compared to the 3k C, it takes longer to wipe the scratch pattern left by the Chosera 1k, but IMO - it refines the edge much further.

Functionally – the Habayusa is it’s own thing, it isn’t exactly like any 3k or 5k I’ve used. If I was going to make some sort of direct comparison to Chosera stones - it’s more like the 5k than it is like a 3k. When I was finished honing, each razor’s bevel had a near mirror polish. I sold my 5k C some time ago, so I can’t do a side-by-side comparison – but I feel that the Habayusa gives a higher polish.

This is a hard stone, seemingly a bit harder than the 3k C. Any swarf that builds up on the surface can be brushed away under running water quite easily. The feedback is easily read but fairly subtle.
