Asagi Namazu

Posh Asagi Namazu Tomo Nagura

This Asagi Tomo Nagura is graced with a few squiggly lines known as Namazu. They are softer inclusions that do not hinder sharpening or honing, they are only a visual enhancement.

This stone is soft, but perhaps a bit harder than the large Kiita Iromono. Like all softer stones, this would not be an ideal choice for finishing the edge on a straight razor on, but it will do very well with mid-range work. It excels as a Tomo or a dressing stone with the right Awasedo though.

These large Tomo are a luxury, and having a full range of different levels of hardness in stones this large might seem to be unnecessary or overly indulgent.

Me, I hone on Jnats every day it seems, and I enjoy having nice options like these larger Nagura on hand. I rely on these larger pieces to keep the honing surface of my Honzan in perfect condition. As a result, I never have to be concerned with scratch marks from diamond plates or having an uneven surface to navigate.

The sides and bottom have been sealed with clear lacquer.
