Honyama Asagi Karasu Koppa
This is a fairly large slab of Karasu. This type of cut is rare – mostly, you’ll find these ‘plates’ cut into two smaller razor-size hones. This one was left as is – no doubt because it’s a very high-quality stone. It’s dense, and heavy. Honing on this is dreamy – the feedback is smooth and creamy.
In one corner – you can see the remains of what was either the Kyoto Whetstone Association stamp – or possibly a Jyun stamp of some kind. The stone was lapped flat, except for that corner. I couldn't bring myself to take it off for the sake of a perfectly flat surface. There is more than enough real estate across the other 3 corners to get any honing/sharpening job done in style.
